DirectStay is committed to making our platform usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, captioning, or other assistive technology.
Our commitment
We work toward substantial conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a finished state: as we build new features and change existing ones, we test and correct what we find, and we treat accessibility defects as defects.
What we are working on
- Keyboard access to all interactive elements, including search, booking, and messaging
- Clear focus indicators and a logical reading and navigation order
- Sufficient color contrast and text that scales without breaking layout
- Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images, and labeled form fields with clear error messages
- Compatibility with current versions of common screen readers and browsers
Property accessibility
Accessibility of an individual property is determined by the property itself, not by the platform. Hosts are responsible for describing their property's accessibility features accurately — including steps and stairs, entry widths, bathroom layout, parking, and any feature a guest with a mobility, vision, or hearing disability would need to know about — and for complying with applicable law, including permitting service animals where the law requires. If a listing's accessibility description is inaccurate, tell us and we will address it with the Host.
If you need particular accessibility features for a stay, we encourage you to confirm the details with the Host through the platform before booking.
Non-discrimination
Hosts and Guests must comply with applicable fair-housing, public-accommodation, and civil-rights laws. Declining, cancelling, or imposing different terms on a person because of disability — or any other characteristic protected by applicable law — is prohibited on DirectStay and may result in removal from the platform.
Third-party content
Parts of our platform rely on services and content provided by others, including payment processing and mapping. We work with providers who support accessibility, but we do not control the accessibility of every third-party component.
Tell us about a barrier
If you encounter a barrier using DirectStay, or need assistance completing something on the platform, contact us at [email protected]. Please tell us the page or feature, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology and browser you were using, if you know them. We will respond and work with you in good faith, and we will help you complete your booking or request directly if that is the fastest route.
Feedback about accessibility is welcome even when nothing is broken — it tells us where to look next.
